Festivals

CSU Sacramento Jazz Festival - December 11, 2010. Rio NYN and 'nightwind will be performing this year at this prestigious event. This festival is a wonderful teaching/performing opportunity. The students are in a warm welcoming environment and the judges have been wonderful with the students. We are looking to improve our scores again this year.

Folsom Jazz Festival - January 29, 2011. Rio NYN and 'nightwind will be performing again at this amazing jazz festival. Last year judge Dr. Art LaPierre invited the group to come and perform with his award winning group at ARC.

Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival - February 24 - 26, 2011. Rio NYN and 'nightwind might be performing at this wonderful festival in Idaho.

Fullerton Jazz Festival - April 1, 2011. Rio NYN may be performing at this prestigious festival. We are waiting on quotes from transportation.

Reno Jazz Festival - April 23, 2011. We performed last year only for comments. Both Rio NYN and 'nightwind performed last year with strong comments from the judging panel. The comments for NYN were "A great ensemble sound. It's even across all the voices."

Golden Empire - TBD - Both the instrumental and vocal departments will be working towards a performance at the Golden Empire Music Festival this year.

Concerts

Winter Concert - December 8, 2010 at 7pm. (6:30pm call time) We have grown a bit in both ensembles and audience attendance so we will be performing in the gymnasium this year. Come out and enjoy the musical offerings. All ensembles will be performing. The concert cost is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children 9 - 18 years of age (children 8 and younger are free).

Spring Concert - March 22, 2011 at 7pm (6:30pm call time). Please come out and support our students. All ensembles will be performing. The concert cost is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children 9 - 18 years of age (children 8 and younger are free).

POPs Concert - May 2, 2011 at 6pm (5:30pm call time). Please come and enjoy our students doing what they do best, perform. They are mostly in charge of this show and have been getting rave reviews from an ever increasing audience. We would like to have a Bar-B-Que and we need your help. The BBQ is the first fundraiser for the 2011-2012 school year so please get a hold of the department or one of the music boosters to help.

Tours

Spring tour 2009 was a complete success. The band and jazz band (1st year jazz students) brought home the trophies. The Jazz Band took 1st in their division and the Concert Band took a third. Rio NYN took first in their division with comments from the adjudicators like "what a honey butter sound" and "that is a very mature vocal jazz sound, way to go." Great job.

Spring tour 2010 was wonderful. Rio NYN performed at the Carnation Plaza Stage. The crowd, and Disney professionals alike, loved the show. And the rides were cool too.

Spring Tour 2011 was a resounding success. The symphonic band placed 2nd in a large list of bands performing/competing. 'nightwind placed 2nd in the vocal jazz/swing choir division and Rio NYN placed first. Rio NYN also took the overall sweepstakes trophy for vocal performances at the festival.

This year's tour will be to the Anaheim Area. We are looking at May 3 - 6, 2012 for the tour. We have our costs are $400.00/person. This includes round trip transportation via coach bus, breakfast each day we are there, one meal voucher for the park each day we are there, hotel accommodations, park hopper tickets for two days, pizza party when we arrive in Anaheim, performance in Disneyland - Symphonic Band & 'nightwind will perform at the Plaza Gardens Stage, Rio NYN will perform at the Hollywood Backlot Stage - and a recording session for all three groups.
