Beginning Guitar This page is a stepping off point for the students, and their parents/guardians, to keep track of what is going on in guitar class. In this class we will be working through the fundamentals of music. The students will learn how to: 1. Read (name) the
lines and spaces of both the Treble and Bass Clefs Read and play music
based on notes This class requires the use of a personal acoustic guitar. The school does NOT provide one for your student. We do provide limited space for your student to occasionally store his/her guitar over night at the school. This is an uninsured location. There are 20 songs from our guitar book (Jerry Snyder's Guitar School Method Book #1) due each semester. Beyond that your student is required to perform two solos, one ensemble/duet piece, and produce a 1,000 & 1,500 word essay each semester. There are also chord progressions, scales, etc. that are required each semester. The solos and ensemble/duet pieces must be performed on the days that are outlined on the white board and in front of the class. The solo's must come from the book that we are working in. The duet's must come from the book the first semester and prearranged with the instructor the second semester. The essay must be in APA format. 1" top and bottom margins, 1.5" left margin, 1.25" right margin, double spaced, 12 point Arial font. There must be the following pages in this order: Cover
Page
The first semester paper must be on the history of the guitar (1,000 words). The second semester paper may be on guitar related subjects (favorite band, singers that played guitar, etc. 1,500 words). I do not want printed copies of these papers. I want them emailed to me at mrclm@hotmail.com so that I can do the editing right on the machine. Below is an example of the grading that we do. I believe that you start with an A and maintain it ... rather than earning your way to the A. If you do not do a solo / duet / research paper you will fail the class.
