Women's Chorus - an entry level ladies choir that will focus on "all choir" works. They will learn how to sing correctly, read music, sight read, and pass an entry level music theory exam. All ladies that would like to sing are welcome. (click here) **Not Yet Active** Women's Ensemble - an intermediate through advanced level ladies choir. They will focus on 3 part + music that leads towards performances at the school and at festivals. (click here) **Not Yet Active** Men's Ensemble - a beginning through intermediate level men's choir. They will focus on 2 to 4 part music that leads towards performances at the school and at festivals. (click here) **Not Yet Active** Rio NYN - Vocal Jazz Ensemble (advanced) - This is the premier vocal jazz class. This ensemble will have up to 16 members with 12 performing at Jazz Festivals and on tour. They will extend their understanding of the language of jazz. They are responsible for weekly listening reports, scales within the jazz genre (Maj7, min7, sus4, sus2, blues, whole tone, modes, etc), learning how to create vocal improv come alive with extensions and other tricks of the genre while they are working in a live and recording setting. This group will rehearse both with parts on the piano and a cappella. They are required to perform solos in class and have the opportunity to perform for a number of differing audiences throughout the year. They will focus on more challenging musical selections. This ensemble routinely performs between 15 and 20 shows a year plus festivals and tour. All performances are required by the ensemble. We will not book a "new" show without checking with the ensemble and combo, but all of the performances that have more than 2 weeks notice (most are a year and generally a month). This is an AUDITION only ensemble. (click here) 'nightwind - Vocal Jazz Ensemble (beginning/intermediate) - They are focusing on harmonies in 3+ density passages. This ensemble may have up to 16 singers and a combo. They will continue learning the language of jazz, learning how to read jazz music, solidifying their intervals and music reading abilities, learning how to extend beyond scalar vocal improv work in a live and recording setting utilizing altered chords-minor 9 chords - sus4 or sus2 chords- etc., and how to blend as one in the vocal jazz ensemble. They will perform throughout the year at the school. They will perform at Folsom Jazz Festival and possibly on tour. This is an Audition only / Permission of the instructor ensemble. (click here)
As members of the music department there are things that you remember. 1.
Should you not perform at a required performance (this class only has two
throughout the year) you will fail the class for the semester There is no way to make up a performance. But, we are required to allow you to make up your grade for missing a required performance.
